We have had a wonderful beginning of school and I am looking forward to a great year.
Presently we are working on place value of both whole numbers and decimals. This includes working with numbers in expanded form, writing the word names for numbers and ordering and comparing numbers. The students are doing very well with these concepts. We will progress to addition and subtraction of decimals and whole numbers. Then we will working toward finding the prime factors of numbers through 50. This is usually something the students enjoy as we use factor trees.
Following our study of place value we will be working on division using up to 2 digit divisors and 3 digit dividends, During this unit a lot of emphasis will be placed on interpreting the remainders of division problems.
I hope all students are practicing their multiplicaton facts on a regular basis as this is critical for success in 5th grade math. I am including some good web site you can use to reinforce the facts. I hope they are helpful.
