A "Bunch" of News!

Thank you all for a wonderful birthday celebration last Friday. It was a great day!
This week we will conclude our holiday/gingerbread unit. We are looking forward to a fun field trip on Thursday and our winter party on Friday, as well as many other holiday activities throughout the week. I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a great start to the new year!

ACADEMICS:
Reading: Reading homework continues this week. Be sure to practice reading at least 20-30 minutes each night. Begin to ask your child simple comprehension questions about the stories he/she reads. Continue to practice vocabulary words. New words for Themes 5-6 were sent home last week. Continue to practice words from Themes 1-4 as well, until all words are mastered. Once words are mastered, have your child use the words in sentences and begin to write sentences using the words. There will not be official reading homework over the winter break. I hope you will help your child enjoy good books at home and practice vocabulary words.
Handwriting: We will continue to practice correct letter formation of capital and lowercase letters, along with correct spacing on paper, proper posture, correct pencil grip, and neatness. We will use this neat handwriting in journals and continue to explore creative writing.
Spelling: This week we will have a review unit consisting of 10 words from the previous units studied. The Practice Spelling Test will be given on WEDNESDAY and the final Test is on THURSDAY this week.

Math: We will continue with Unit 3 in our math book . We will continue to discover the place value of numbers. We will use place value to compare numbers, to count forward and backward, skip-count by 2's, 5's, and 10's, use a 100 chart and determine whether a number is even or odd. Continue practicing addition and subtraction facts at home for instant recall of facts.
Thematic Unit- Gingerbread: Students will learn about the origin of gingerbread. Students will discover holiday traditions and customs.
Just a few reminders!
*Please return Weekly Work Folders, blue parent signature page, signed behavior card and one piece of your child's work for our Good Work board on Monday.
*Please send notes if your child will go home a different way than usual.
*Please send notes and/or Doctor's excuses for absenses, tardies and early dismissals from school.
*Join PTA and Booster Club! These groups are a vital part of Towne Acres!
*Be sure to collect box tops and Campbell's Soup labels. Please return them to our classroom this week to be counted in this semester's contest.
