Important dates: SOL tests for 8th grade May 14 to 18th Topaz Team's end of year awards assembly will be June 6th at 2:00 pm in the auditorium. Screening tests for placement in eighth grade math begin May 7th for seventh graders. There are two parts to this testing process. The first test given May 7th is test of basic skills arithmetic skills. Students who demonstrate proficiency on basic arithmetic skills will take the second test on May 22. This test is an algebra diagnositic test which determines if the student is ready for algebra. What's happening this week: Monday, April 23, 2001 Monday begins with the new Problem of the Week: Each of the first ten prime numbers is written on an indiviaul piece of paper and put into a hat. If two are crawn without replacement, what is the probability that the sum of the two numbers will be prime? Express the answer in simplest fraction form. Bonus Monday in class we will continue our work on developing an understanding of the relationships between fractions, decimals and percents. We will check page 162 problems 1 to 12 Classwork will be page 163 problems 13 to 49, which will be assigned to finish for homework. Announced: There will be a quiz on percent relationships Wed. Tuesday, April 24, 2001 Warm-up will review writing percents for given models. We will check and turn in homework from page 163-64 problems 13 to 49 A small group acitivty will be provided for extra practice and additional written practice will be given for homework. Wednesday, April 25, 2001 Warm-up will review comparing fractions with unlike denominators. Question answer time will be provided before homework is turned in and ten problem quiz is given. We will then begin an investigation of the probability of simple events. Read page 165 and 166 and do problems 1 to 8 in notebook. Thursday Warm-up will review changing fractions to percents. Quizzes will be returned, with reteaching and requizzes being provided for those that need it. We will check page 167 problems 1 to 8 and then begin an activity to invovle the students in an investigation of probability. Homework will be page 167-68 problems 9 to 29 Thursday April 26, 2001 Warm-up will review changing percents to fractions and decimals. Requizzes will be turned in. Check and turn in homework page 167-68 problems 9 to 29 Continue the small group activity to investigate probability of simple events. Homework will be written practice on probability. Friday April 27, 2001 Warm-up will review changing decimals to percents. We will conclude our probability activities with by writing summarizes of what we learned. No homework for the weekend. Chapter test will be next Friday. Study and be prepared.
