Classroom News for January
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a great holiday! Happy New Year!
Swimming begins on Wednesday, Jan. 9 - 10:35 - 11:15 a.m. at the Lawson Aquatic Center. The bus leaves the school at 10:00. Please have the children bring a plastic bag, towel and bathing suit. They will also need a toque to cover damp hair. We are swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays from Jan. 9 - Feb. 4.
Our next Scholastic book order is due on Thursday, January 17.
The children will continue to bring home duotangs on Friday with reading sentences in them. Please have your child practise these sentences so that they can read them fluently.
We will continue the home reading program. Please have your child read books and record them on his or her reading log. There has been a great response to this program. The children have collectively read 2150 books. I will be planning another pizza lunch this month to celebrate our successes. More information will be sent home about this event.
Popcorn day is on Friday, January 25. Please send orders and money to school on Wednesday, January 23 in the morning.
In mathematics we are working on telling time. Please help your child with this concept if you notice that they are having difficulty. The grade 2s should be able to tell time to the 5 minutes (ex. 2:05) and the grade 3s to the minute.(ex. 3:51).
In Science and Social Studies we are learning about the Inuit people, Arctic communities and Arctic animals.
