Newsletter for week of February 20, 2012 I would like to thank Ms. Williams, Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Kirby, Mrs. Pohland, Mrs. Emery, Mrs. Neal, and Mrs. Johnson for sending items/helping with the Valentine's Day party. The kids enjoyed their ice cream sundaes! Thanks for all the sweet treats you sent - I won't fit out the front door by the time I finish all that chocolate! Don't forget we're out of school on Monday, Feb. 20th!!! Please see the note coming home in the Friday folder about the 3rd Grade Fraction Museum. Your child's item will be due on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Also be on the lookout for info coming home NEXT week about a 3rd grade biography project. In addition, I would like to do a pizza activity to learn about fractions. If you'd be willing to send any of the following items next Tuesday, please send me an email. We'll need: 2 people to send 1 lg. bag of mozzerella cheese each 3 people - 1 bag of mini peperonis each 2 people - 1 bag of individual size pizza shells or bag of pita bread each 1 person - 2 jars of pizza sauce 1 person - 1 can of black olives, can of mushrooms, or any other pizza toppings the kids will eat 1 person - paper plates We would order pizzas, but I want to incorporate measuring into this math lesson as well. Math facts were on the last week's newsletter. Since I didn't have the kids write them on their spelling list, I didn't count it against them on assignments this week. Please make sure your child lists facts this week!!!! It will count whether they copy them off the board or not. Continue to have them practice and learn their facts. It just comes down to memorization. CHANGE in Monday's spelling hw - NO story! We will do spelling fractions. Write the fraction for the number vowels and consonants in each word. They need to make three columns and label the first one spelling word, vowels fraction, and consonant fraction so I can grade it easily.
