Dear Parents and Students,
Beginning second nine weeks, students will have the opportunity to take part in a challenge project as extra credit.  This will correlate with figures of speech that were introduced in the book, Hatchet.

A publisher of reading textbooks has asked you to design a flipchart or book that will help new students who enter midyear.  The publisher realizes that once figures of speech are introduced in each story, it is assumed that the students recognize them in each short story they will read.  Your flipchart or book will allow those who need extra practice access to much needed materials.  Also, any students who are new to Towne Acres will have access to this in order to "play catch up" with their class.
Your flipchart or book should state each figure of speech, followed by a definition of each figure of speech.  Use literary examples other than those used in Hatchet.  Colorful illustrations should be on each page that go with the figures of speech making it attractive and motivating  for the reader to understand.  Use your computer, draw and/or use clipart.  When you finish, you should have a project that a publisher would LOVE to publish!!
