***Swinging Into First Grade***
Week of January 19th-23rd
We finished our winter unit with a wonderful snowman project on Friday and I think all the students had a lot of fun with it. Speaking of snowmen, I hope everyone had the chance to play in the snow and build a real snowman. We also welcomed Ms. Masters to our classroom. She will be student teaching in our classroom until March 13th. She is very excited about first grade and she can't wait to work with each student. This week we will discuss the presidential inauguration and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students will make "A Dream" of their own.
Thanks so much for the continued extra supplies for our classroom. It is greatly appreciated. Don't forget to visit the book fair this week. There are lots of goodies!!!We are also getting close to our 100th day celebration. Since we missed school on Tuesday, 100th day will be next Monday, January 26th. Please remember to bring in your shape homework on Wednesday, January 21st.

Write down all the sounds you pat.

They are really excited about writing and they can't wait to have another author celebration. We will learning about special names of nouns (proper nouns) and how we should capitalized them. Please remind your child to always write neatly.
Reading -- Students will review letter sounds, high frequency words, and grade level vocabulary. In our guided reading groups we will have vocabulary drill and work on reading with fluency, and comprehension. Be sure you are practicing your vocabulary words list 1-6. A new list will be coming home soon. READ READ READ READ READ
