TRAVEL JOURNAL PROJECT SPANISH GRADE 8
For this project you will be creating a travel journal that will describe a recent trip you took to a Spanish-speaking country. (The exact country will be chosen in class.) Your travel journal should include all of the following information:
1. A hand-drawn map of the country showing its capital plus four additional cities. The places you visit should be highlighted in some way on your map as well.
2. A brief description of the country you visited (between on half page and one page) that includes:
· The location of the country (including what countries and/or bodies of water it borders).
· The capital of the country and any major cities (this can be indicated on the map as well).
· A brief description of the geography and climate of the country.
· How the country is divided (i.e. states, provinces, etc.).
· A brief description of the country’s political system.
· The currency of the country and exchange rate from dollars to that currency.
· Two or three major tourist attractions.
· Any famous people who come from that country.
3. Two one-page journal entries describing in detail three of the towns/cities/places you visited while you were in the country. In each entry you should describe:
· Any monuments, museums and/or other tourist attractions you visited.
· One kind of food you ate there (it must be authentic food from that region/country).
· A picture of the place you visited (or some important aspect of that place). Pictures can be computer-generated, cut out of magazines or brochures, or drawn by you.
· (SPANISH ONE ONLY/ INTRO. OPTION) One journal page must be written in Spanish.
4. Two picture postcards, one written in Spanish and the other in English, to a friend or family member, describing some other places you visited (or giving new or different information about places you already visited). You should describe your impressions of the place and what you did while you were there.
SOURCE INFORMATION
Since you are writing a travel journal, you want your information to be as up to date as possible. I recommend that you use brochures from a travel agency, a travel guidebook (such as Lonely Planet or Frommer’s) or the Internet.
· You must use a Reference Page at the end of your travel journal.
· You must use at least THREE sources to complete this project.
· You may only use ONE encyclopedia (online encyclopedias count as one).
EVERY SOURCE THAT YOU USE MUST BE CITED. If you do your research entirely on the Internet, you must include a complete URL for every site from which you took information!
There is an attached list (although not complete) of websites that you should find helpful in your research.
