NOTES FROM MRS. TSONGALIS September 26, 2009 It was a pleasure to meet all of you at Open House...100% of the J17 families and and more than 2/3 of the J16 families! Now, it's midterm already. This is always hard to believe, especially in sixth grade when we have just now completed our first full week in the classroom. I've been impressed by my students this year. They were a most enjoyable and engaged group at Camp Bournedale and have settled into classroom studies with great purpose. LANGUAGE ARTS: This week students will finish reading A Week in the Woods. From there, we'll move on to a survival novel. The fall IPAs are also finished and in the process of being scored. Students are responding, most days, to prompts in their writing journals. We had the first spelling test yesterday and will have the first Wordly Wise vocabulary test on Monday. S.S.R. logs and binders will be checked and graded for the first time on Monday, as well. We've been quite busy! SOCIAL STUDIES: The classes have been involved in a review of basic geography terminology and concepts. Their first quiz will be on Tuesday. For further review and reinforcement, I'd encourage them to check out some of the links at the bottom of this page. Within the next week or so, we'll be moving into the early humans part of the curriculum. Students have been keeping up-to-date on current events with weekly Time for Kids magazines. The first Map of the Week was also assigned and completed this past week. Binders will be checked on Tuesday. Whew!
