Written & Illustrated by Me!
In this class students will write and illustrate a 15 page booklet. Due to the limited amount of time, students are urged to write according to their strengths (true stories in which students know all the facts and the chronology are encouraged).
Students may seek the help of their parents in obtaining all facts and details.
Students work in publishing companies in order to aid each other with ideas.
All work is due by the end of the period on the dates below. Students receive a 100 point grade for each item listed in the syllabus:
- 25-On time
- 25-Complete
- 25-Neat
- 25-Following directions
The following is the class syllabus for the 3rd 9 weeks:
January 16: Formation of publishing companies
January 18: Fold signature pages and book jackets.
January 19: Favorite book review
January 18-19: Story web
January 23: Supplies due:
- (1-9X12 sketch pad
- 1-jar of rubber (not contact)cement
- 2 pieces of cardboard each measuring 8X10
January 25: Title and 1st draft of story written skipping lines
January 30-31: Editors review 1st drafts.
February 1-2: Stories returned to authors for rewrite.
February 5-8: Typing of stories in computer lab.
February 9-12: Final editing on screen.
February 14-15: Final changes made by authors.
February 15: Final saved copy.
February 16-23: Class printing in computer lab.
February 26: Layout of text and illustrations on layout sheet.
February 27: In class illustration instruction and practice.
February 28-March 5: 4 completed illustrations due.
March 6-8: Remaining 3 illustrations due.
March 9: Book jacket design due (Book summary/author).
March 12: Glue pages to signature pages.
March 13: Book pages stitched and turned in for grading.
March 13-14: In class preview.
March 15: Author reception (Parents invited!!!)
