CHOLET UPDATE

In this update the following issues will be addressed:

Upcoming meetings
Fees still due
Passports
Corresponding with your hosts

Upcoming meetings

I would like to have a meeting with you very soon.  I am aiming for this Thursday, May 15,
possibly at 7:00 in the evening, in my classroom.  Parents are invited to come.  Would it be
possible for all of you to respond to me ASAP to let me know if this date is good for you?  By
Tuesday evening I would like to tell you if this date is definite, so please respond before you
leave school on Tuesday.  Look for an e-mail from me that evening.  (And pray that
Wednesday’s softball game doesn’t get rained out, or else it will be played on Thursday.)

Fees still due

Fee to NETC.  As you recall from last August (update from August 30), if we didn’t reach 12
paying customers, each of you would need to pay an additional fee.  We have eleven, so
therefore I will need to collect an additional $44.00 from each of you.

Tips.  It has always been customary to offer a tip to our tour guide and to our bus driver.  The
amount is $4 per person per day (9 days) for the guide, and $3 per person per day for the driver.
That comes to $63 per person.  However, thanks to a donation the the FHS French club, we are
able to reduce that to $31.00 per person.

Transportation from Paris to Cholet and Cholet to Paris.  After we arrive at the Charles de Gaulle
Airport in Paris, Tuesday, June 12, Monsieur Martineau (teacher from Cholet) will meet us and
escort us, via TGV to Cholet.  The cost to each of you will be $42.00.  On Monday, June 18, we
leave Cholet for Paris by bus.  The cost for each of you will be $61.00.

Note 1:  The prices for the TGV and Bus were given to me in French Francs.  Conversion to US
Dollars is based on a rate of 7.49 FF per 1 US Dollar.

Note 2:  Your admissions to Futuroscope and to Puy du Fou will be paid for by our friends in
Cholet.

Note 3:  If you’re wondering why we are not taking the TGV back to Paris (I did too), I have the
answer.  The bus will take us right to the door of our hotel.  By taking the TGV to Paris, we would
need to find transportation from the train station to our hotel.  This would most likely by the
Métro.  Carrying our luggage to the Métro stop and from the stop to our hotel is a lot.

Note 4:  I will need to collect the $178 (44 + 31 + 42 + 61) before your last day of school.  Thank
you for your cooperation.

Passports

Hopefully you all have your passports by now.  I would like to have 3 photocopies of each of your
passports.  (I’ll explain why at our next meeting.)  I’d like each of you to bring in your passport
some day for me to copy it.  PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH IT!  If you prefer to make your own
copies and bring those to me, that’s OK.  Please make sure that your picture is clear.  If your
passport photo is in color, you may need to adjust the setting on the copy machine.

Corresponding With Your Hosts

I’m glad to hear that many of your have been in touch with the students who will be hosting you.
Take advantage of this opportunity to get to know your Corresponding With Your Hosts

I’m glad to hear that many of your have been in touch with the students who will be hosting you.
Take advantage of this opportunity to get to know your correspondant / correspondante.  Not all
of the students have access to e-mail at home, but they can get it at school.  If you do not have
an e-mail address for you corres, write a letter and e-mail it to me (using the address at the top
of this page) and I will forward it to Madame Bouvier, who will give it to her sttudent.  A mix of
English an French seems to be working well from what some of you have told me so far.

That's all for know.  We'll here from each other soon
