FAIRVIEW - CHOLET EXCHANGE
Automne 2001
Update: September 17, 2001

Dear Travelers and Families,

On Thursday I sent an e-mail to Madame Bouvier (for those of you who have just joined us as host families, Madame Bouvier is the Cholet teacher in charge of the exchange) wondering about a few things. (1) How are the students in Cholet reacting to the tragedies of last Tuesday? (2) Would they like to keep New York City on their agenda? (3) Do they still even want to come to the US next month? Are they and their families concerned enough that they might decide not to come.

I received a response from Madame Bouvier on Saturday. As it stands right now, they are still planning on coming. Her pricinpal says to continue as if they're going. The students still want to come. She feels that we can't simply let this tragedy stop everything. She did mention one parent who said her son still wants to go, but she will be a nervous wreck if he does go. However, the final decision hasn't been made. Other factors may come into play.

They will be having a meeting on September 28. (This meeting had already been scheduled before the events of this Tuesday.) She's sure she'll hear more concerns then and some parents may possibly say "no". She'll know their feelings then.

A second factor is le rectorat, an office of the government which must approve of what schools do. (Their system is a bit different than ours.) Hopefully they will approve. We don't know yet.

Madame Bouvier did say that if it was necessary to delay the exchange, next spring is a possibility for them. She mentioned two possible time frames (March 28 - April 11, which could present problems since that's Easter time and also our spring break; and April 2 - 13). Of course, we would need to get that approved, too.

Hopefully, we can keep our original plans.

So, that's where we stand right now. I thought you'd be interested in knowing.

Thanks for everything.

Monsieur
