FAIRVIEW - CHOLET EXCHANGE
Automne 2001
Update: September 18, 2001

Dear Host Families,

With regret, I must inform you that the Cholet Exchange will be postponed.

The morning of Monday, September 17, 2001, I received an e-mail from Madame Bouvier. In it she informed me that they will not be able to come here next month. In light of the tragedies of last week, their government has issued a ban on student trips like this one for the time being. She doesn't feel that the ban will be lifted before October 19.

As you know from yesterday's update, Mme Bouvier had suggested a couple of time frames in the spring for them to come here. I have spoken with Mr. Signorino and we agreed that April 2 to 13 is fine. I have sent that information to Mme Bouvier and I await her response.

I am hopeful and confident that this will work well. In fact I will, from this moment on refer to this as a definite (at least until I'm told otherwise,) and am renaming this the "Fairview - Cholet Exchange -- Printemps 2002"! (Note the new letterhead.)

Of course, I always prefer to look at the positive, and I'm already finding some. The first that comes to mind is the fact that you have more time to communicate with your French correspondents between now and then. Please take advantage of this. I echo what I had stated earlier this summer: I hope that by the time you meet in person, you feel like you already know each other.

Let them know how you are. They are very worried about us. When they heard that a plane had crashed in Pennsylvania, they, understandably, worried that it was closer to us than it actually was. They are also worried about our state of mind, wondering if we are able to proceed with life as normal, as if nothing has happened and as if nothing will happen.

I'll be in contact with you again to let you know when things become official. Until then, keep hoping.

Thanks again for everything, for your willingness to participate in this program, your cooperation, and your ideas. We've been dealt a blow, but we will pull through and make this a success, just a few months later than we had planned. Hey, if you've heard anything about what we went through just to get to Cholet in June, you know that we are a group that's capable of rolling with the punches!

Monsieur
