The Cholet Exchange is back on for this October, and it looks like it's going to stay that way!!!!
Here is the e-mail I received from Madame Bouvier. Translation and brief commentary follow.
Cher Bob , la décision est prise nous arrivons comme prévu le 19 octobre avec tous les élèves mais nous ne visiterons pas New York. Que penses-tu d'aller à Toronto ? c'est peut-être possible des chutes du Niagara , il me semble que ce n'est pas loin. Nous aurons peut-être assez d'argent . Je ne me rends pas compte. Cela a été une semaine très mouvementée. Mais le Proviseur a eu tous les accords de ses supérieurs et tous les parents ont dit oui ;mais je sais que certains vont avoir peur !! Que penses-tu de notre décision ? courageux ? Les élèves voulaient tous montrer leur soutien à l'Amérique et à leurs correspondants ... je suis fière d'eux.
Dear Bob, the decision has been made. We will arrive as planned on October 19 with all the students, but we will not visit New York. What do you think of going to Toronto? It is perhaps possible to go there from Niagara Falls. It seems to me that it is not far. Perhaps we will have enough money. I do not know for sure. This was one very emotional week. But the principal had the support of his superiors, and all the parents said yes; but I know that some will be afraid!! What do you think of our decision? Courageous? The students all wanted to show their support for America and to their correspondents... I am proud them.
So, that's where we stand. I'm not ashamed to say those last two sentences brought a tear or two to my eye.
It all seems fine to me. I don't know if we'll be able to go to Toronto. Doing it the same day as Niagara Falls is a lot to ask for one day. That is up in the air.
If they don't want to go to New York, we'll have to see what will happen on November 1.
I haven't responded to Madame's letter yet. When I do, we'll discuss the necessary changes. But, in the grand scheme of things, those are minor details when compared to the fact that they are actually coming.
