Course Overview
This is a course designed to acquaint the student with a firm understanding of the structure and functions of state, local, and national government. Students will develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts of democratic theory and philosophy, examine the structure and institutions of the national government, analyze the Constitution and amendments, and investigate political beliefs and behaviors, party politics and interest groups. Civil rights and civil liberties and the interplay of freedom and equality are also primary areas of content and class discussion. The course also traces the development of government in the U. S. and the world and exposes the student to contemporary political thought and practice.
