May Happenings in First Grade

Sorry it has taken me so long to update this!  We have been a busy bunch!

Our weather unit in science is going very well!  We have learned to read a thermometer as well as making one of our own to practice!  We have tested the different temperatures of cold, hot and mixed water.  We charted our results and wow were we ever surprised!  Our class is also charting the weather daily on a calendar and a graph.  This week we are making bags of different colors to put our thermometers in to see if there is a difference in temperature between the colors.

We started fractions in math.  We learned what equal parts are.  Our class has also learned how to divide something in half.  We also learned how to write a fraction.

PLEASE keep reading those Buggy Books every night!  Congratulations to C.J. who has read 150 nights so far.  Congratulations also goes out to Jamey C., Justin, Summer, Taylor, Chelsea, James, Alec, Jamie S., Steven and Chazz who have reached 100.  All of these people will be celebrating by eating a McDonald's lunch at the beginning of June!  I am so proud of all of these people!!  They are on their way to becoming super readers!

We will be having school on Friday, May 25th.  The last day of school will be June 20th instead of June 21.

Thanks so much to Mrs. Shaw, Ms. Cain, and Mr. Kono for helping with popcorn!  We couldn't have done it without them!

We have a student from Voc. Tech. that will be with us in the afternoons until the second week of June!  She is doing accelerated reader with the kids, reading to them, helping them with math and helping out with science.  She is a great addition to our room and we would like to say WELCOME to Stephanie!

Look for more exciting news to come!
I will try to update the website one more time before summer vacation starts!
