But they had their rival Langley still to be played. With a record of about 9-3 they had won only 3 non-district games, pulling lead to teams like Lee, Landon and Stuart. Many of their games had been played with a lead and then ended in upset. Hopeflly Mclean still has something left to finish out th season in victory. With a fairly new team, and few returning players the season began with few hopes. "I guess we always wanted to beat Langley" Says Eric Fish, a returning junior. Also with the same coach Mr. Ferrick the team could grow as a team. But still the team was unable to pull out a winning season. "I don't know what it is, sometimes coach subs funny, other times we just aren't into it enough." Says Fish. Despite the hard times the team relationships stuck. "The players have a pretty good relationship with the coach." Says Hannah Peterson, team manager. Ferrick has been coaching for 5 years, including previous coaching positions at other High Schools. So he has had a chance to see many of the players grow. The regular starters are; Dan Russo, Sean Moran, Masato Takamura, Matt Nickolavich and Robby Brosnan. However coach Ferrick puts in subs throughout the game. "Well he usually subs with consistancy, and I don't play much, he also subs when soemone has messed up." Eric says. But still the teams troubled games and many upsets draw crowds. Kelly Clinton, a fan whos has attended many games says, "Its usually a pretty good turnout, the 6th man superfans show a lot of support." Its good to see such a great turnout, and hopefully the support could lead to a pickup. "I think it definately helps with morale." says Petereson. Even though the team has not lead, or been able to become the lead dog iof the district a game includes excitement. Leading scorere Sean Moran also puts up a good show. Sinking points from many positions. However even with a lead in the first half of the Langley games, the team fell behind in the third quarter. This upsetting sort of loss was seen throughout the season. In the Woodson game the team was able to take the lead into the second quarter, with the score of 32 to 28 , Mclean lead. But, in the third quarter Woodson, sinking a three point , and drawing two fouls was able to take the lead 35 to 32. Even though Mclean put up a good fight, they were unable again to take the lead. Another reaccuring loss is Mcleans close loss. "Its the worst when we loose by like two and the whole game we are so close." Fish says. The team lost to teams such as Madison and Wakefeild by only 1 to 2 baskets. Hoever fans still attend games, and cheer loudly. Kelly Cliton, a fan says, "I like going to the games, but I also have to go to my brothers games so I usually just stay." Some fans even noticed tey had beenplaying better over the games, and other commended their favorite players. "In one game Dan Russo tottally stuffed some guy, it was great." says Kelly. ALong wiht indivdual fans a large group of Senior guys make up the Sixth man Super Fans Decked out in matching custom made shirts and loudvoice you'll see them at most the games. The upset of Mclean's season has still not ended but can still be saved, becasue the team still has more games. They still have to face Langley agaian at home. "I think since we wil be at home we have a better chance to win." Peterson said. They also will come against Woodson and Marshall again. These games will be hard to win, but the season is not yet over, and one wuestion remains, will they pull out a win? ------------------------------------------------------------ SECOND STORY- Mothman Prophesies Movie Review Interviews- 1)Katelyn Bevard- viewer 2)Beth O'Connor- viewer 3)Erin McLaughlin-viewer 4)Other viewers - ------------------------------------------------------------ Interview Questions 1)What is the plot of the movie? 2) What type of movie was it? thriller? horror? 3)Did the mvoiecarry a good pace? 4) What was good about the movie? 5)What was bad about the movie? 6)Would you recomend it to a friend? why or why not? 7)Do you believe this the Mothman is real? 8) What aspects made the movie scary? ------------------------------------------------------------ Interview 1-Katelyn BeVard Q:What is the plot of the movie? John Klein played by Richard Gere has a successful career as a Washington Post journalist and a beautiful and loving wife, Mary played by Debra Messing. But, this perfect life doesn’t last long. While Driving back from looking at the dream house they want to buy, Mary sees something fly at the windshield and she crashes the car. However nothing is outside the car and John has seen nothing. Still, this "thing" haunts Mary shortly after she is diagnosed with an inexplicable brain tumor, she dies. Jumping ahead two years, John is still grieving for his wife and when driving to an assignment in Richmond, Virginia, his car suddenly breaks down on a secludes road where he, discovers that he's driven to Point Pleasant, West Virginia which is 400 miles off where he should be and no idea how he got there. With the help of a local police officer played by Laura Linney John decides to stay in this small town after he is interested by the sightings of a "winged being.”, which are connected to his wifes drawings he discovered after her death. So, John races to figure out what all these sitings mean and what fate this leaves for the people of Point Pleasant. The more he finds out, the scarier it gets and the closer he gets to the being. The movie however suspenseful has many turns which lack suspense and leave watchers drifting off in their seats. But, the cast is beautiful strung together and most of the cast portrays their characters perfectly, keeping in mind this is a hard film to act in. Still with the good acting the film also lacks any strong relationships. When Gere looses his wife in the beginning he mostly is in contact with the “Mothman.” Linning plays the down to earth police sergeant who is trying also to deceiver the past sightings she had filled before Gere comes along. Most viewers agree that the cast was one of the few enhancements, “It was slow. But I love Gere and Linning, but I wished they had fallen in love or something.” says Katelyn a viewer. Gere and Linning work well together in the film, creating periods of suspense and a spice of romance that leaves you wondering if it will lead to anything. After leaving the film you are left wondering what is it really about? It is part X-Files, and part horror film. “When I got up I was like okay..good film but who the heck is this being?” stated Bethany O’Connor a teenage viewer. Mothman starts off creepy but once the main character gets to Point Pleasant, the film stalls, and putters for miles, until you are engulfed of a second of terror. The film also lacks the explanation of what the unexplained being or beings are that haunt this small town. You would think after Gere spends most of the movie searching for the “Mothman” you would have a clear idea of what it was , but you don’t. Even given the fact that the story is based on true-life events, it still doesn't really make the subject any more interesting or scary, because you never get the feeling that this could really happen. The bottom line is that the Mothman is too slowly paced, taking its sweet time getting to the punch. The actual punch however powerful should have been addressed earlier. Most viewers agreed , “Its slow. But good when something is actually happening” said O’Connor. “You just wait and wait and wait for another good part.” says Kelly Pyne an adult viewer. It is a great plot and has a lot to lead too but never seems to do so. I do have to admit it sent me jumping a few times, and the musical techniques work well with the suspense. So, if you are a phenomena fanatics, a horror film lover, or misbehave witnesses this being it may satisfy you. “I love movies like this. I even sat there at the end I was so in awe. It just has some much material.” Says John McKeon an avid X-files fan. It may even give you the budge to go search for it yourself However for the normal Joe out on a Friday night it may just put you to sleep. I do have to admit it sent me jumping a few times, and the musical techniques work well with the
