What a great year this has been. Thank you to all of you for your support and generosity to me and to the 4B students. They have benefited from your example. I hope all of you have a wonderful, fun, and relaxing summer.

Religion

We continue to work in the Family Life book. This week we will discuss what feelings are and how to properly act out our feelings.>

Social Studies

Math

General Information

a) In math this year we will assess students with both free response tests and with multiple-choice tests. We use the multiple-choice format so that students are well practiced for the TerraNova format in the spring.

Weekly information

We continue to work on time in Chapter 5. This week the students will practice scheduling events and using calendars.

Language Arts

Spelling

General Information

Spelling tests are on Wednesdays. Students will be given a new word list and a weekly assignment to complete in their Spelling Practice Workbook. They will have the whole week to complete each of the assignments. Usually I will collect one of the assignments at random to grade.

English

We continue to learn about comparative adjectives. This week the students will learn how to use “more, most, less, and least.”

Reading

General Information

The open book quiz tests both general knowledge of the story and vocabulary. The students will be able to use the book to answer story related questions. They will not be able to look up vocabulary definitions. The students will need to recognize all vocabulary words in a multiple-choice format and they will need to use three of the vocabulary words in a sentence to prove that they understand the meaning of each word.

Weekly Update

The students will complete activities associated with “Number the Stars.” We will learn about rising action, climax, and falling action, and we will apply those concepts to events in “Number the Stars.”

Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Huebner

Policies for 2010-2011

Assignments

Each student is expected to use the homework planner provided by the school to keep track of daily homework, tests and projects. If a student comes to school with homework that has not been done, recess time will be used to complete the work. Extenuating circumstances that prevent a student from completing homework should be explained in a note from home. When a student is absent, work will be sent to the bench outside the office to be picked up by a parent or other authorized person at the end of the day. Make-up work after an absence should be completed within a reasonable time

Mrs. Watson's students will be given a homework completion grade for each quarter. Completion grades will be given in the following subjects; Spelling, Math, and Social Studies. Assignments must be complete and turned in on time. Students who turn in all assignments on time will receive a homework completion grade of 100%. Incomplete or missing assignments will receive a zero for that day's completion grade. (If I collect an assignment to be graded, students lose 5 points for each day that the assignment is late.) The number of assignments will vary depending on the subject and the semester.

Assessments

Tests will be announced in class, written on homework boards to be copied in planners, and posted on class web pages. Students will be given sufficient time to study. Completed tests will be sent home each Wednesday and should be signed and returned the next day.

Handwriting

All work is to be done in pencil in the student’s best cursive. There may be requests to replenish supplies, such as pencils, during the year.

Parent Volunteer Program/Room Mothers

Each month we invite interested parents to spend some time with the fourth grade students. During this time you and the students will participate in some enrichment activity related to the curriculum. For example, you might assist a group of students with a sensory writing activity or by playing a math game. We will provide materials and instructions when you arrive at school. Fourth grade celebrations are limited to Halloween and Valentine cupcakes at lunch and the Christmas Breakfast.

Quia

The Quia web page is updated weekly, usually on Sunday. It is meant to give you a snapshot of the material being covered during the week. We will post dates for tests, book reports and projects, but not nightly homework assignments.
