Welcome to Summer School Science

You will accumulate points for all of your work that you do in this class!  Class participation included.  Please plan on having a TEST every Thursday! You should plan on having a Quiz, Classwork and Homework every day!

First Homework-You and your parents/guardians must e-mail me ASAP.  My advice would be to do it as soon as you get home.  Please be sure to put your name in the subject line so I know who it is from.  This way I know that you have my correct e-mail address and I will have your correct e-mail address.  I will always email you back.  If you do not get an email back within 24 hours, it means that I did not receive it.  There is a filter on the school email.  Be sure to fill in the subject.

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS!

In your notebook, we are going to set up a section to list all of your grades and you can calculate your average based upon your points that you earn!

Lab1: Black Box Observations and Inferences

Objectives:  To construct “black boxes” and to determine inferences, based on their observations, about the contents of a “black box”.

Pre-Laboratory Information:  Define and state one example for the following terms:  black box, qualitative, quantitative, observation, and inference.

Materials:

Procedure:
1. Students make black boxes.
2. Make observations clearly stating the senses being used.
3. Only after you have two to three good observations, then make some inferences.  Do not guess what the object is until the very end.
4. Students at the very end may make a prediction.

Observations:
Each observation should clearly state the sense being used and written in a complete sentence.

Data and Calculations: none for this lab.

Conclusion and Summary of Results (error analysis): State what you did, how you did it, and the results you obtained.  Discuss all relevant terms used in this investigation.  Be sure to clearly and completely distinguish between observations and inferences.

Very Important to know the Metric system!
You must be able to state the SI base units with their symbols.
Length
Mass
Time
Temperature
Luminous Intensity
Electric Current
Amount of Substance

SI Prefixes
