Dear Parents, With this letter I would like to introduce myself as you child's Social Studies teacher this year. On Thursday, October 17, I would like to welcome you to Western Hills Open House. I am looking forward to meeting you and showing you our curriculum and the classroom. Please attend if you have an opportunity to do so. This year will be an exciting one for my students and me. We'll study Geography, Medieval Times, Latin America (geography and history), and Canada. I have planned many activities that I hope will encourage my students to succeed. Many parents ask about homework assignments for their child. While there may be times when assignments and long-term projects will take lots of time, there is a routine that I try to follow as closely as possible. There will be at least three nights of homework per week you can expect your son/daughter to be doing for this class. These assignments are listed on the board each day. If the student is absent from school they can get the homework from this web site. This web site has the homework that is planned for the upcoming week. However, if for any reason the homework changes (class schedule changes), the student is still responsible for getting the correct homework assignment. During the year, you and your child will have the opportunity to become familiar with this web. In addition to the homework assignments that are posted each week, there will be online activities and pre-quizzes such as: including flashcards, matching, concentration (memory), word search, hangman, jumbled words, ordered list, picture perfect, pop-ups, challenge board, and scavenger hunt. If you have any questions or if any problems arise, please contact me at school: (401) 785-8030. I will be glad to speak with you if you just give me a call or send in a note. Please keep in mind that I my not get your note until the next day, so please be patient, I will call you back! I look forward to working with your child this year. I also look forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Ms. Crabtree Preview of the Week ahead!
