Language Arts Eighth Grade Resource Welcome to the world of Language. We will be working on reading, writing, vocabulary and literature skills this year. We will be working on many different kinds of literature. These will include novels, short stories, biographies and non-fiction selections. Class Expectations: Students are expected to come to class prepared to work. They should have paper, pencils, books and other school supplies for class. Home work is expected to be turned in as assigned. Time trackers are to be brought to class each day and will be signed by the teacher and parent. There will be a vocabulary assignment and quiz each week. The vocabulary will be given on Monday and the quiz will be on Friday. Please check the calendar for changes and updates. I hope each student enjoys the class and learns to love reading and language. See the links below for sixth grade inclusion classes with the Wombats and Sea Turtles. Eighth Grade: We will be working on reading and writing activities this week . We will be working on elements of fiction, summaries, vocabulary, and comprehension while reading. We are reading a novel in class at this time. Our writing assignments will be done mostly on the computer, and students will be given an email address and password. This is a privilege and the students will be expected to use the email appropriately. If the privilege is abused they will not be allowed to use the email. Students should be reading a novel or nonfiction selection from the Library. We go to the Library every Tuesday to check out books and read. We will be starting a new program where students can earn an academic letter for achieving their reading goals.
