The fourth six weeks has been filled with many exciting activities. We have enjoyed celebrating the 100th day of school with enriching activities that extended our knowledge of the number 100. We also initiated our “Big Six” research project on famous Americans. The students will present their project as a living history museum to the younger students in the fifth six weeks.
The fifth six weeks will begin with OLSAT/SAT 9 testing. You can help your child prepare for testing by enforcing an early bedtime and supplying a healthy breakfast on testing days.
In Language Arts we will be reviewing nouns and noun/verb agreement, quotation marks, and contractions. We will also introduce summarization, main idea, along with prefixes and suffixes. Please help your child at home by reading each night followed up with some comprehension quesions.
In Math we will focus on 3 digit addition and subtraction, probability, geometry, and interpreting graphs. We will continue to administer fast fact tests weekly, so please keep reviewing the facts at home. The schedule is as follows: January: Subtraction to 18 February: Addition to 18 March: Subtraction to 18 April: Addition to 18.
Our Science unit on animal groups and their habitats will end with a trip to the Houston Zoo. Your child will need a sack lunch and comfortable walking shoes. Our Social Studies unit will cover the United States with a special focus on Texas history. The LASSO program will wrap up the unit and promises to provide unique and exciting learning opportunities.
