Consumer Math students have just started a unit on fractions. We have been reviewing fractions vocabulary and operations with fractions. We had already done some work with fractions, as part of the unit on making change and handling money, where we calculated the value of coins. (A dime is one-tenth of a dollar; a quarter is one-fourth; etc.)As part of the recent time unit, we worked with quarter-hours and half-hours to calculate hours worked and weekly wages. We'll be using fractions in other practical ways: for measurements in cooking, crafts, or home projects; to figure discounts, etc.
