"CHEMISTRY"


Course Description:


Chemistry allows students to develop a variety of skills associated with scientific inquiry, gain a historical perspective consistent with the theories of chemistry, acquire an appreciation of the natural world, and understand the role of chemistry in the describing the natural phenomena. To reinforce concrete learning experiences, a variety of laboratory exercises, demonstrations, and technology is utilized to illustrate scientific concepts. Emphasis is placed on safety procedures in the laboratory

Chemistry students should be readers who are
1. present
2. consistently prepared
3. focused and attentive
4. polite
5. careful

Classroom/Laboratory Rules:


Chemistry students need to
1. be in their seats when the tardy bell rings. (School policy for tardies will be followed.)
2. bring to class textbook, notebook with lined and graph paper, pencil or pen, and calculator.
3. obey all safety rules in the laboratory, with no horseplay or tablehopping.
5. have no food or drinks in the classroom.
6. arrange to make up tests, quizzes, and laboratory exercises, and have the make-up work completed within 3 days of an absence.
7. stay in their seats (or at lab stations) until the bell rings to end class.

Evaluation


Six-weeks grades are determined from tests(50%), lab reports and quizzes(40%), and homework(10%). The semester examination score accounts for one-fourth of the semester grade.

Homework Assignments:


Monday, Dec. 4: % composition problems from board. All formula mass and % composition problems due Tues.
Tuesday, Dec. 5: Bring all materials AND text book for retests on Periodic table(Chapters 6 and 7) and Nuclear chemistry (Chapter 25).
Wednesday, Dec. 6: Complete first 5 problems on exam review.
Thursday, Dec. 7: #6-10 on review sheet.
Friday, Dec. 8: Look at First page of review sheet--mark every thing you need to review in class.
Monday, Dec.11: Study for exam. EXAM is Tuesday Dec. 12. We will meet one more time: Thursday, Dec. 14. ___________________________________________________________
