Women Under the Talibans Rule
There has been a lot about a country called Afghanistan and a government called the Taliban in the news since September 11. This government says that they are following the Islamic religin, they say the way they treat women is right that they are nothing at all. This is not what the Islamic religin belives and no country can understand there ways. The women in Afganistan are beening treated like animals, they have no right and no lives.
In September 1996, Afghanistan was taken over by the Taliban and that's when the womens rights were taken away. They don't have the right to there own bodies, to speak, for health care, eduction, to work, or walk down the street. They are forced to were a garment called the Burqa, it covers the women from head to toe, it has heavy gauze patch across the eyes that makes it hard to see and completely blocks peripheral vision. If a women is outside of her house without her burqa she would be hit 100 times in a public arena in Kabul, the capital.
In Afghanistan it is illegal to do many things some thigs are : music, movies, tv, picnics, wedding parties, New Years celebration,any kind of mixed-sex gatherings, childrens toys, cigarettes adn alchol, magazines, newspapers, and most books,and applause. The women are not alowed to work except a few that are dactors because a women can not be examined be a male doctor, but the women have bad health because there are so few doctors out there and the ones that are herassed everyday. They can not leave there house without a close male relative with them, or there burqa on. They can not travel on the same bus as men, there are a few buses that they have made for women, the whole bus is covered with heavy clothe so that only the driver can be seen but there are only a few so most walk where ever they go. The punishment for doing any of these thing can range from getting lashes to beening killed or seriously injured.
After September 11 things first got worse for the women in Afghanistan because of all the fighting and bombing there but now that the Taliban is being taken over the women are starting to get there rights back they are coming out without there coverings. Slowly they will become what they were before, strong independent women it' s jsut going to take time.
