Year Long Theme - CELEBRATE LEARNING!!
What are we learning?
Math Learning Target: I can measure length using inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters. I can measure temperature with fahrenheiht and centigrade thermometers. I can multiply using numbers up to 5.
Students will have math skills to practice at home during the week. These will be skills we have worked on the class. Math homework comes home on Monday and is due Friday.
Reading Learning Target: I can make real world connections to what I am reading. I can use visualizing to help me understand what I'm reading.
Reading homework is to read 15 minutes, 5 days a week. Students will bring a book from school to read and record what they've read in their homework reading log (blue Reading Rocks page).
Spelling Learning Target:I can spell the words with prefixes from my word list correctly. I can also spell new words in the same spelling pattern correctly.
Each Monday, students will bring home a list of words that they should study throughout the week. The words will come home in a spelling packet which includes the list of words and several activities they should complete and return on Friday. Word lists are based according to the word pattern we are studying in class. Quiz is every Friday.
Language Learning Target:I can put commas in a sentence when words are listed. I can distinguish between fact and opinion. I can identify and use verbs.
Language arts (how language and words work within text) will be an important part of learning in second grade. Each week, students will have specific learning targets focused on a certain aspect of language.
Writing Learning Target:I can use sensory details in my writing.
Science/Social Studies Learning Target: I can correctly name the characteristics of an insect. I can name ways people can recycle.
