Welcome
We are going to be learning a lot about animals including where they live (their habitat)
We will have many activities, along with a trip to the zoo.
Monday:
Video of Zoo animals
Read aloud a book about animals in their natural habitat
Children can choose an animal to color
Small group discussion on labeling animals and their parts (fins, wings, feet/hooves)
Children will be assigned to bring a picture of their favorite animal
Tuesday:
Review animal names/favorite anumals and their parts
Chldren will name animal using a complete sentence and place it in a pre-designed area which tells how it moves (water, sky/flying , ground)
Children will make sock puppets of their favorite animal
Wednesday:
DAY AT THE ZOO
Each child will randomly pick a picture of an animal. This will be the animal they partcularly observe at the zoo. They will then have to tell the teacher/assistant what they observe the animal doing. The teacher/assistant will write it on the back of the animal picture to use as a follow up activity.
Thursday:
Children will verbalize what they saw at the Zoo (i.e. what animals they like, why etc.)
Children will then talk about their particular animal and tell what they observed the animal doing - using complete sentences (a very early ethogram-a chart which has animal names/pictures and the behavior observed. )
Friday:
Children will "move" in a way an animal moves and the other children will have to "guess" what animal they are.
Children will listen to a description of an animal and have to "guess" the animal (Stress parts of animal and habitat)
Make masks of favorite animal
