When the plural 's' or 'es' is added to an English word it can have one of three sounds /ez/, /s/ & /z/.
Here are the rules:
1. 'es' is pronounced as /ez/ after the sounds /s/, /z/, /sh/, /ch/ & /j/.
2. 's' is pronounced as /s/ after the sounds /p/, /t/, /f/, /k/ & voiceless /th/.
3. 's' is pronounced as /z/ after all other sounds.
