Prior to joining the staff at St. Theresa Catholic School, I was a preschool teacher and director at Blessed Sacrament Preschool for eight years. I have been in first grade since August, 1999. I have an AA degree in interior design, an AA in early childhood education, a BA in elementary education, and a MA in elementary education with a focus on reading. I love teaching first grade students. No two school days are the same and I learn from my students daily!
My teacher aide is Mrs. Beth Rapa. Beth has been an aide at our school for the past 5 years, working in kindergarten and first grade. She is the parent of 2 St.Theresa graduates. At present, Mrs. Rapa is pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
We are very excited to welcome Ms. Jen Deye to our classroom beginning Jaunary 3, 2011. Ms. Dye will be student teaching until early March. She will begin by observing in kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade. As the weeks move on Ms. Dye will begin teaching subjects one at a time. Our class is excited about having a part in teaching a teacher!
This has been a fun, great year of learning. We sent Ms. Deye out into the "teaching world" after learning with her. Everyone loves to see her on campus substituting for P.E., music, or where ever she is needed. We are praying that a very lucky class gets to have her as their teacher next year!
One of the highlights of our end of the year activities was to sing two songs to our graduating 8th grade partners. The tradition has been to sing at the end of the last school Mass our partners attend. We wish the 8th graders well and will continue to pray for them as they venture into high school.
The last full day of school is the date for the first grade beach party. After cleaning desks and chairs in the morning, we will have a beach party at lunch sitting on beach towels. Then in the afternoon everyone will gather in one classroon to watch "Nemo" and hope the little fish finds his father!
