My name is Norma Derosa. I am resident of Meriden and I care very much for my community. I have BA in Education, from the University of Puerto Rico, MA in Theology from West Virginia University, 12 credits in Spanish Literature from Central University and 38 Credits in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from Fairfield University. I am working towards my Sixth Year in Education. I have been a teacher for 29 years between Puerto Rico and the United States. As a Second Language learner is easier for me to relate to my students needs. The strategies that I am using to teach Spanish reinforces other content areas such as English and History. Also, in order to aid my students in acquiring a second language, I am using different activities and aides as; overhead, television, videos, compact discs, computerize listening activities, visual activities, interactive games, group activities, Spanish speaking peers asistance and my constant supervision of their progress are some learning methods used to help my students grasp the Spanish Culture and the Language. I have a very wonderful family, but the person closest to my heart is my beautiful granddaughter Teagan. |
