Colombian Economy
Business is improving in Colombia. This can be observed at the malls and supermarkets, where larger crowds are now more common and willing to spend more money. In addition, cement sales are up 1% per month, versus –2% last year. This is very important because it indicates a growth in the construction business, which is indeed 1.5% higher than last year, when the Colombian economy touched bottom. Business profits are increasing because firms are more competitive, and also because they have moved away from wholesalers but close to retailers, in order to eliminate middlemen. All of the above indicates that recession is declining fast.
