Computer Crazy

William spent every free moment he had at a computer. At school he spent his free time in the library with friends, playing computer games. After school William was in a computer club, learning to make Web sites. At home William often worked in the garage by himself, fiddling with a computer he intended to attach to his wheelchair.

One day Dad said, "You can't spend all your free time on computers."

"You should spend more time with people," Mom said.
"You are crazy for computers," his sister Abby added.
"But I love computers. They can help us and connect us. You'll see." William replied.

The next day Abby had a project to do for school.

"I'm working," said Mom.
"I'm cooking," said Dad.
"But it's due tomorrow," Abby said. She looked for William and found him in the garage.

"I have to research penguins for a project due tomorrow, and Mom and Dad can't take me to the library," Abby complained.

"Why don't you use the computer?" William suggested. They spent the evening on the Web, finding tons of cool facts about penguins.

One night the following week, Dad opened the refrigerator.

"I have no idea what to make for dinner," he sighed. Just then William wheeled into the kitchen.

"How about looking on the Web?" William showed Dad how to find lots of new recipes on their computer.

That night at dinner Mom said, "I think we owe William an apology. We told him not to spend so much time on computers, but this week he helped Abby do her homework and Dad find new recipes. William, you showed us how useful computers can be. Now, how about showing me how to e-mail my clients?"

"I guess it's good to be crazy about computers," Abby smiled. Everyone agreed.
