Summary of a Sports Article

We are reading two sports articles from the Boston Globe from the past month. One is Nick Cafardo's "A Chance to Catch Lavarnway's Act" and the other is Bob Ryan's "A Real Diamond Sparkler." After reading both, decide on which one you wish to summarize.

Sports writing has to convey the basics of journalism, the 5W's and 1H, or who, what, when, where, how and why. This would includes who played what sport, when and where, how the game proceeded and ended, why things turned out as they did, etc. Sports writers freely use the jargon or specialized language of the sport, expecting you to know these terms. They often project a voice or attitude, and do so in a colloquial or conversational way. Sports writing is generally not about front page, world-shaking, breaking news, but our world would be less livable without the camaraderie and heroism of sports.
