4th Grade Reading Comprehension (Set 5) - Joe
_____Joe’s alarm was ringing loudly. He rolled over and turned it off. It was still dark out, but he knew he had to get up. It was Joe’s job to deliver the newspaper to all his customers before six o’clock in the morning. Joe pulled on his pants and shirt. He did not like to get up so early, but he needed to do his job. _____Joe rode this bike to the corner where the truck dropped off the papers. He folded each one and slipped it into a plastic bag. Joe had to count out 57 papers and load them into his bike basket. _____As he rode down the dark streets, Joe expertly flipped the papers onto porches or into driveways. The sky began to turn a light purple with streaks of pink. Joe stopped his bike and quietly watched as the sun burst over the edge of the world. It really was a breath taking sight! Joe started peddling his bike and tossing papers again. He was no longer tired. He was happy he had such a good job, a job that let him see the beginning of each new day.
