Affiliation Fee (Natl. FFA Dues)

Because FFA is an integral part of the "Ag Ed Model", the National FFA is currently piloting the possibility of paying member dues through a school "affiliation fee" rather than individual dues. The rates and levels are NOT yet established, but I hope to gather your views on this idea.

For Example (example ONLY): A school would pay a flat rate for 0 to 40 members; and higher rate for 41-80 members, etc. ALL ag ed students in that high school would therefore be FFA members, and eligible to participate in FFA activities.

In my opinion...if a high school "affiliation fee" were used...
More students would be able to participate in FFA activities.
Students that do NOT pay to play (dues) would not appreciate the FFA
The HASSLE of checking individual membership eligibility would be eliminated.
Paying Dues is a BARRIER for some students (not ALL but some).

The concept of paying a high school affiliation fee RATHER than collecting individual dues...
I do NOT support this approach.
I do NOT support this approach, because students do NOT appreciate what they do NOT pay for.
I support this approach because, all Ag Ed students would automatically be FFA members.
I support this approach because, dealing with students that cannot afford dues would no longer be an issue.
I support this approach because, this approach would make the "Ag Ed Model" authentic.

  1. I SUPPORT the idea of conducting a chapter fundraiser to pay a school affiliation fee; rather than collecting individual dues from individual students.

  1. Chapter Officers...
would need to be selected, based upon their level(s) of participation.
would be harder to select, if they do NOT pay individual dues.
would NOT be committed to their responsibilities if they did NOT pay dues.
elections would NOT be impacted by a change away from individual dues to high school affiliation fees.

  1. Raising chapter funds to pay a high school affiliation fee?
Chapter fund raisers, such as fruit sales, would be an ACCEPTABLE approach for paying a high school affiliation fee.
Additional fund raiser(s) would need to be conducted.
We would approach local Agribusiness & Industry to assist in paying the Chapter Affiliation Fee.
We would approach our county Farm Bureau to assist in paying the Chapter Affiliation Fee.
We would approach our Alumni Chapter to assist in paying the Chapter Affiliation Fee.

  1. FFA is... (select all that apply)
a learning tool which ALL students should have the opportunity to use.
only for students that want to work hard and succeed.
is more important at the local level than at the district, state, or national level.
is more important at the district, state, or national level than at the local level. .
an organization which requires students to pay-to-play.
too valuable to restrict to students that can afford to pay dues.
valuable, but some students are too ashamed that they cannot afford to pay dues that they do not discuss the option of paying dues.
an opportunity which ALL students can afford, if they chose to do so.

  1. Conducting a CHAPTER FUNDRASIER to pay an affiliation fee for ALL students; rather than collecting individual dues from individual students. (select all that apply)
    I support this concept.
I do NOT support this concept.
Local business & industry support would probably be a strong possibility in our community.
Local business & industry support would NOT be supportive in our community.
    Would create too many free-loaders.
Would provide opportunities for students who "suddenly" have an interest in an FFA activity or CDE.
Kids do NOT change...once lazy...always lazy.
Kids DO change...those who are lazy may suddenly become interested.

  1. I support this concept "IF"...
schools paid the same $ they now pay for dues, but more Ag Ed students were eligible to participate in FFA.
schools paid the same or "slightly more" $ than they now pay for dues, but more Ag Ed students were eligible to participate in FFA.
I do NOT support this idea. Some students would just be freeloaders.

  1. Should the Iowa FFA Association consider increasing the Affiliation Fee and ELIMINATING individual dues?
