Three Diversity seminars will be offered each semester for a total of six throughout the 2010 - 2011 Academic Year. Review the suggested topics below and select "Yes" or "No" to provide an indication of your interest. Please provide additional topic suggestions in answer to the last question to guide us to other areas that interest you.

  1. Activism in the Community

    During this session a number of experienced activists in the community come together to inspire and encourage students to develop their own community voice. What things in the community concern you and how do you begin to create change are a just a few things you can share and seek advice. From Chewstick to BEST...sharing ideas to improve Bermuda's future.*

  1. Disability

    Have you ever wondered what life is like in Bermuda if you live with a disability? This is an opportunity to talk with different persons living with differing disabilities to gain an understanding of the challenges many persons face in Bermuda and how they overcome them. This is a wonderful chance to meet some truly inspirational people.*

  1. Gender Issues

    This session focuses on a particular area of diversity and human rights - gender. Students explore the social differences in relation to whether you are male or female. This is an opportunity to understand what is meant by gender discrimination as well as explore how both men and women are effected by it locally and globally.*

  1. wWhat are our human rights?

    Students will have a chance to explore both 'what are human rights?' and 'what different human rights you have as a resident of Bermuda?'. Students will also get an overview of Bermuda's Human Rights law along with important international laws from Europe and the United Nations. This session is useful for getting a basic understanding of all our rights and responsibilities as you prepare for employment opportunities.*

  1. Exploring Diversity

    This seminar is a highly interactive seminar in which students actually participate in a number of exercises designed to introduce them to concepts of diversity, particularly around race, gender, religion and sexual orientation. The seminar will also look at beginning to understand issues such as bias, prejudice, stereotyping and cultural characteristics. A useful insight into how different areas of diversity connect and having fun too!*
