Good writers try not to use a general verb when they can choose an exact verb to describe an action. Read these examples: Wildflowers appeared on the rugged cliffs. Wildflowers bloomed on the rugged cliffs.---------The rough waves threw the seals against the rocks. The rough waves dashed the seals against the rocks.
