What's so great about home?

Home is great because it's where you keep all your stuff exactly how you want it arranged, so it's easy to find what you need, when you need it.

Your teacher profile is like your home on Quia Web, a place where everything you need to get going is at your fingertips, customized to your needs.

But it's not just for your use. Because like your home, it's a place where you can welcome others. Your profile is a place where others can find and interact with you on Quia Web. Students, parents, administrators, and colleagues - all are members of the Quia community who could show up at your virtual door any time. So if you haven't already done so, go ahead and put out the Welcome mat!

Tell us about yourself

What should people call you? What do you teach? Are you looking for volunteers to help you out? Do you have a blog? These are all questions you can answer by completing your profile.

To begin, click the Edit profile link in the Actions box. Quia displays the Edit Profile page where you can enter information about yourself, set your Quia calendar to display on your profile page, and add links to other websites, among other things.

Give us your best smile

At its core, Quia is a community of educators and students, but it can be tough to get to know one another without being able to put a face to the name. So if you're shy, we won't pressure you - it's your choice - but if not, then go ahead and post a picture!

To add or change your picture, click the Edit photo link in the Actions box.

When, what, where...

When is the midterm exam? What day is the field trip? Are you conducting a special review session? Quia provides you with a calendar that you can use to schedule events like this and more. And by setting it to display in your profile, your students won't have to dig around to find it.

To set your calendar to display on your profile page, click Edit profile in the Actions box, then select the Include calendar check box and click Save.

Once your calendar is enabled, you can add, delete, and edit events. To do so, click Edit calendar in the Actions box.

Your profile address

Quia displays the URL of your profile page right at the top. You can give this URL to people you want to visit your page. But make sure you enable your profile, or no one will be able to access your profile page.

When your profile is not enabled, you will see the Enable my profile link beside the profile URL. Click this link to enable your profile. You won't see this link if your profile is enabled.

When your profile is enabled, Quia displays a link beside your URL that allows you to easily send the URL to others via e-mail. You won't see this link if your profile is not enabled.

About you

The About me section is a good place to provide information on your background or qualifications, as well as any special interests you want to share.

Message

If there is something special you want students to know about you or your class, the Message section is a good place to display it. For example, you could use this section to tell students about your grading methodology and how you weight the different components that make up their grades.

Classes, Activities, Quizzes, and Surveys

The remaining sections of the profile page allow you to manage and list links to your classes, activities, quizzes, and surveys. Like the furniture in your living room, they are the key components of your Quia experience.

Click the header for a section - Classes, Activities, Quizzes, or Surveys - to go to the appropriate editor, where you can create new classes, activities, quizzes, or surveys, or edit existing ones. You also use these editors to add these items to your profile by clicking the icon.

Within each section of the profile page, you can click the  icon for an item to edit it. You can also click the  icon to remove it from your profile. If you decide later you want to add it back, go to the appropriate editor and click the icon.

We hope you'll add lots of links to these sections. Show your colleagues all your really cool activities. Add a link to a critical survey to gather responses to your call for a holiday potluck lunch. There are so many ways to use the great features on your profile page!
