It is important to understand your rights as they relate to the process of evaluations. If you believe that your evaluations have not been completed in accordance with the procedures agreed to in the bargaining agreement, contact your site representative immediately.
Article IX - Certificated Employee Evaluations begins on page 38 of the new contract. Pay special attention to items #3, #4, #5, #7, and #10 -- but do be familiar with the entire article.
Initial evaluations of Prob I, Prob II, and Temporary teachers are to take place prior to winter break. Subsequent evaluations are to take place prior to May 1.
Permanent teachers may be evaluated any time through the year until May 1.
DO NOT BACKDATE YOUR EVALUATION FORM WHEN YOU SIGN IT!!
Each observation should follow the same basic procedures:
1. Prior to October 1 you are to be notified in writing of your prime evaluator's identity.
2. Prior to the commencement of the evaluation process you are to have a pre-evaluation conference to discuss the evaluation process and set a mutually agreeable time for your initial observation.
3. Evaluations shall be not fewer than 25 minutes long.
4. Evaluations shall be discussed with the teacher within 7 workdays of the observation and the paperwork completed within 10 workdays of the post-observation conference.
Only those forms included in the Collective Bargaining Agreement Appendix are to be used for evaluation purposes. If you are approached to sign off on, or participate in any evaluation using forms other than those included in the CBA Appendix, contact your site representative immediately.
The terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement are the ground rules which the Association and Administration agree to conform to in the interest of equality and effectiveness. It is your responsibility to uphold your end of the agreement, and to hold the district to theirs.
