Cimarron Elementary PRIDE Reading Teachers
Practicing Reading Intervention Develops Excellence (P.R.I.D.E.) is an established intervention program implemented in all of the Katy elementary schools. Mrs. Leung and Mrs. Wilder, Reading Specialists at Cimarron, provide one-on-one instruction for first grade students with a need for extra reading instruction.

With home and school working together, our goal to develop successful readers will be achieved. Reading aloud is essential for early reading development. Read to your child everyday using a variety of sources; magazines, cereal boxes, newspapers and street signs.

Play games with the letters and sounds from the alphabet. Alphabet Bingo, Matching upper and lowercase letters, and  What Letter Comes Next? are all simple games to develop early reading. They can be played at home or even in the car.

Most important is to model reading by using lots of expression and calling attention to punctuation. Try to read to your child at least 5-15 minutes a day. Find books on their level by using the Five Finger rule. If there are 5 unfamiliar words, the book is too difficult. Ask questions about the story using who, what, when, where, and why.

Make every moment count. READ!!!
