Here are our goals for Capítulo 4:

1.)Learn vocabulary

Llegar a la escuela Most of us come to school by car, but there are really a lot of ways school children get to school: a pie (by foot), en el bus escolar (by school bus); en carro [en auto, en coche] (by car); en micro (by bus S.A.); en metro (by subway); en bicicleta (by bicycle)... ¿Cómo llegas tú?

En la escuela Have you ever looked around the classroom and wondered,  ¿Cómo se dice "pencil sharpener" en español? Se dice el sacapuntas. This will be a mix of new and old vocabulary. Most of you will be familiar with the vocabulary from elementary school. Please make flashcards for any words you think you need to review. We will identify and describe things in our classroom environment.

2.) Hablar Okay, so now that you know the words, what do you do with them? Well, you're not just going to stand around reciting a list of words. You're going to use your new vocabulary. Use the vocabulary together with some new verbs, and you're going going to ask people how they get to school, tell people how you get to school. You will be able to discuss differences between U.S. schools and Latin American and Spanish schools. You will describe where you and others go and where you and others are. You're also going to continue to learn about the distinction in Spanish between and usted (Ud.) They both mean "you," but which one you use depends on to whom you're speaking.

3.) Verbs We will be adding a lot of verbs to our vocabulary and, of course, that means more conjugation. We're adding these regular AR infinitive verbs: estudiar, enseñar, mirar, escuchar, tomar, sacar, prestar, preparar, cantar, bailar..And, because you're up for a challenge, some irregular verbs: estar, dar, ir. These are on your vocab sheet. We are going to find out what they mean and learn how to conjugate them.

Most of you have been doing great on conjugation. You seem to have the regular AR verb endings for the present tense down. See if you can answer these question about yourself:

¿Estudias mucho?
¿Qué estudias?
¿Hablas con tus (your) amigos por teléfono?
¿Usas la computadora?
¿Llevas una mochila?
¿Miras la televisión durante la semana (during the week)?
¿Cómo estás?
¿Adónde vas?

Next, try to see if you can change the sentences to ask about other people. For example, Do they study a lot?, What does Enrique study?, Does the girl carry a backpack?, etc.
