Go Directly To Your Grades - Updated Weekly

Study Guides and Strategies

Grades are merely snapshots of your child’s performance at school. There is so much more to a middle-school age student than can be reflected in a report card. The Grades web page is updated weekly and includes overall grade, category grades, individual grades, absences and tardys. Absences reflect that a student was not in my class and does not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences.

Pre-Algebra Grading Policies

Evaluations (60% of your grade) – Evaluations include tests, quizzes, personal interviews and any activity that allows a student to show what they have learned. Evaluations are graded on depth of knowledge and accurate presentation of skills. Evaluations are scored using a math rubric that provides valuable feedback to students and parents. Students can earn 3 to 0 points on each problem / question.

3 points - shows complete understanding of the concept or task, logical reasoning and conclusions, and correct set up and/or computations, all of the work is shown
2 points - contains minor flaws in reasoning, neglects to address some aspect of the task, or contains a computational error, most of the work is shown
1 points - shows minimal understanding of the concept or task or contains numerous and/or major computational errors, little work is shown
0 points - indicates no mathematical understanding of the concept or task or student failed to respond to the item, no work is shown

Work (40% of your grade) – Work includes classwork, homework, projects and any activity in which students practice a skill or learn a concept. Work is graded on accuracy, neatness, and following directions. Work is graded on a 3 point scale (3 = 100% A+, 2 = 80% B-, 1 = 60% D-, 0 = F  REDO)

Students who earn a 70% or below on any evaluation or work product may see Mr. Evans to relearn and redo that evaluation or work product. The highest possible make up grade is 70%. Save your evaluation or work and see Mr. Evans during Lunch/Recess or Study Hall. Late work is penalized one point for each day it is late (3 point scale). Students have one week to make up any missing work and/or evaluation.

A 100% to 92%
A- 91% to 90%
B+ 89% to 88%
B 87% to 82%
B- 81% to 80%
C+ 79% to 78%
C 77% to 72%
C- 71% to 70%
D+ 69% to 68%
D 67% to 62%
D- 61% to 60%
F 59% to 0%

Homework will be assigned nightly and should not take more than 15 minutes to complete.

There will be an evaluation every Monday that covers material from the previous week. Students who work hard in class, complete homework, review nightly, and ask questions should only need to study 30 minutes on the weekend. An evaluation can be rescheduled with a parent’s request.
