Freahman English Course Outline

Freshman English is a course that is intended to provide students with an overview of the regular English program.  Course work will consist of grammer and composition, plays, novels, short stories, poetry, writing, and speaking to an audience.

Grading and Classroom Policies

All reading and writing, both in class and out of class, will count towards your final grade for the course.  All homework assignments are due at the begining of the next class.  If you happen to miss a class, you will have an extra day or two to finish the assignment, depending on how many days you missed.  Each day an assignment is late I will deduct 5 points until it is turned in.  Tardiness will not be tolerated.  If you are not in your seates when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy.  If this becomes a problem throughout the semester, I will begin each class with a short quiz, and if you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you will miss the points.

If anyone is absent on the day of a quiz or test, you will be allowed to make the test or quiz up the first day you return (only in the absence was EXCUSED). Any unexcused absence on these days will result in a failing grade for that day.  No make ups will be allowed and you will fail the assignment, test or quiz.

Grading Scale

10 quizes (10 points each)
2 Exams ( each exam will be worth 100 points each)
1 Research paper- 100 points
1 oral presentation- 50 points

All above assignments and tests dates will be discussed in class.
