Join the GT staff on either Tuesday, February 12 at West Potomac High School or Tuesday, February 19 at Woodson High School for an overview of gifted services offered by Fairfax County Public Schools will be presented. No registration is necessary to attend either session. Both will run from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
West Potomac High School is located at 6500 Quander Road; Alexandria, VA 22307

The 6th grade school-based GT classes are continuing their study of maps. The current focus is on meridians, parallels, time zones, and routes.
We will need help from several parent volunteers during our orienteering activities. This will occur during late April and early May. Information about this will be coming home near the end of February. Please call or e-mail if you are able to help.
Information about summer enrichment programs is beginning to come into all FCPS schools. I have received the brochure for this summer's Johns Hopkins CTY offerings. If you are interested in learning more about the Johns Hopkins programs, please contact CTY directly at the addresses listed below OR read the information brochure that is located in the Director of Student Services office. Note: Selection criteria for 6th graders (rising 7th graders) are different than those for 7th and 8th graders. In addition, being selected to participate as a rising 7th grader DOES NOT mean a student is automatically eligible for the 7th and 8th grade programs.

Meanwhile, the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary both run a residential programs for high potential students. While I have NOT received any information for this coming summer's programs, you can obtain it by doing a web search. At least for the U. of Virginia, the deadline for completed application usually occurs by early February. The deadline is INFLEXIBLE, so if you have any interest in this program, you need to get going!
