Welcome to our Fifth Grade Classroom Connections page! We will be keeping you updated every six weeks about all of the exciting things our wonderful fifth grade students will be doing.
Mathematics classes have been working diligently on fractions. After Spring Break, we will be continuing our studies of geometry and measurement. We've been busy getting ready for the April Taas tests. We recently took a practice test and we will now be targeting any weak areas by offering tutorials on specific objectives. We know our Hutsell Hornets want to score well on the tests.
In science, we are finishing our studies of adaptations of plants and animals. One of the most popular units, Space, is coming up after out break. We will be building out own rockets and other fun activities.
The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were covered in Social Studies classes. Now we will be studying Westward Expansion and the Civil War.
The Reading teachers are using novel units in their classes. Literature Circles meet every Thursday or Friday for lively discussions and interaction. Don't forget about those 6 AR points that must be earned each 6 weeks. Refer to your homework handbook for the grading scale. Ask your child how many beads they have earned for THEIR AR necklace.
Language classes are studying verbs this six weeks and remember, spelling and dictation tests are every Thursday. If your child forgets his spelling book, the unit lists are accessible on the Katy Web Page.
The D.A.R.E. program is well under way. Seventeen exciting lessons are planned.
