Fourth graders at Slaughter are busy working on many new skills. They are learning to write Compare/Contrast papers. This is a new skill for many due to the fact that we initate this and several other writing styles in fourth grade. This will be a part of the TAAS testing this February. Students will be asked to perform the Writing portion of the TAAS test in February, while Reading and Math TAAS testing will take place in the Spring.
We are currently learning about fractions and decimals in Math. After the Thanksgiving Break, we will start on Division with one divisor. Pleae, help your child work on their multiplication facts.
Students are reading books in their Z.P.D. range and working on extending their vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Students follow up with book projects, reading response journals, and accelerated reader tests. Ask your student about the book/books that they are reading. Share your favorite book with them or read aloud/to/with your child.
Our class novel this nine weeks is "Indian in the Cupboard," by Lynn Reid Banks. Have you ever read it? Ask your child to tell you about the setting, characters, and adventures in this book.
