California Assembly is Broken
  Keith Broaders

New Hampshire has a population of approximately 1.3 million and has 400 seats in their state assembly. California has 30 times as many people, but only 80 seats in their state assembly.

For the people in both states to be equally represented, either New Hampshire would need to reduce the number of their representatives from 400 to only 3, or California would need to increase the number of assemblymen from 80 to 12.000.

The County of Los Amgeles has a population equal to the state of Alabama, but Los Angeles County has only 27 assemblymen compared to Alabama's 180. The average state has a ratio of one representative for every 50,000 while California has one representative for every 487,000

If you lived in a city with a population of 50,000 you are currently being represented by one tenth of an assemblyman, but with a ratio of 50,000 to 1, your city would have one assemblyman representiung your city.

When the polical power is vested in the hands of a few, the many suffer the consequences. Wheb the political power is shared by many the rights of the people are more secure.
