Second Grade Teacher Information for Parents / Games for Students

The last story of our Window to the Sky  reader is Swimmy, by Leo Lionni.  This selection, set under the sea in a wondrously beautiful world, teaches the value of cooperation and working together to overcome obstacles.  The paint and collage illustrations of sea creatures make the story truly special.

I have made some games your child can use to practice vocabulary from the story.  Just click on the Java Games link in the Quia activities section below, and it will take you directly to the games choices page.  It may be helpful to print out the list of terms (vocabulary list words and definitions used in the games) from the games choices page so your child can refer to them as needed during practice.  A matching game has been added this week.  I will also post a Hangman Game your child can play to review all the vocabulary words for Unit 3; watch for it to be added to this page at the end of the week, so your child will have it in time to study for the unit test that will be given next week.

There are lots of additional links in the Useful links section this week.  You and your child will find coloring pages featuring ocean creatures to print and color, craft projects, a challenging slide puzzle, word searches, ocean facts and information, and an author study of Leo Lionni.  If you don't have time to explore all the links this week you can bookmark the Class Page for future use. Enjoy!
