Second Grade Teacher Information for Parents/ Games for Students
WEEK of SEPTEMBER 11th, 2000
We will read and discuss the second story of Unit 1 this week.  The unusual title, Carry Go Bring Come is derived from a Jamaican phrase that means to fetch and carry, and that is exactly what Leon, the main character does throughout the selection.  The author, Vyanne Samuels, has written an amusing account of a family getting ready for an older sister's wedding, and the vocabulary theme is wedding words.

I have made some games your child can use to practice vocabulary for this story.  The games are linked in the Quia activities section below; just click on the link and it will take you directly to the game choices. It may be helpful to print out the list of terms (vocabulary list words and definitions used in the games) from the game choices page so your child can refer to them as needed during practice.  There is also a sequencing game to test recall and comprehension of the events in the story.

It is my hope that you will find this class page informative and that your child will enjoy learning and practicing new vocabulary through the games linked below.  I have added a few additional links in the Useful links section for background/enrichment purposes.
