Second Grade Teacher Information for Parents / Games for Students
    WEEK of OCTOBER 16, 2000

The reading selection for the week is a non-fiction, science -based essay by wildlife photographer Colleen Stanley Bare.  The students will learn the differences between alligators and crocodiles, and facts about both of these types of creatures as they read Never Kiss an Alligator.

I have made some games your child can use to practice vocabulary from Never Kiss an Alligator.  The games are linked in the Quia activities section below; just click on the link and it will take you directly to the game choices. It may be helpful to print out the list of terms (vocabulary list words and definitions used in the games) from the game choices page so your child can refer to them as needed during practice. There is also a comprehension game with questions taken from the story Never Kiss an Alligator so you can see if your child has read carefully and understood the selection.

You will find some additional links that relate to the story in the Useful links section.  There are some great photographs of alligators and crocodiles, lots of factual information, and even a fiction selection about crocodiles. I have provided these links for background and enrichment purposes, not as practice for the vocabulary and comprehension test on the story.
